Queer Sport Calendar

About

Why I started this

I am a sporty person.

After moving to the Netherlands in 2017, 2022 was the year that I first heard of and participated in a queer tournament. Over the past couple of years, I joined some others. However, since I am relatively fresh and not that active in the community, I often found myself struggling with where to find the information, even just the keywords.

Everything still seems to be going the discrete way… or it's just me not yet knowing how the world works XD

I believe it could be different.

Then I heard about Queer Calendar, a calendar showing upcoming queer events in the Netherlands, for now (I believe it will grow with time). I was so into it at first sight because the style and everything felt so familiar. And yes, one of my areas of expertise is software development.

Queer Calendar inspires me, and here it is now. Shout out to Queer Calendar!

Respect comes first

Respect is the most important value behind this project.

Sport should be a place where people can participate, connect, and enjoy themselves without being treated differently because of who they are.

That means respecting different identities, bodies, abilities, experiences, cultures, and ways of participating in sport.

It also means respecting the people and communities doing the work: event organizers, clubs, athletes, volunteers, contributors, and everyone helping queer sports communities grow.

This platform will not be perfect, but respect should always be the starting point for how it is built and maintained.

Support the project

This is an independent project, and keeping it running takes time and resources.

If you find it useful and would like to support its development and maintenance, donations would be greatly appreciated.

Support this project

Donations help cover things such as hosting, infrastructure, services, and the ongoing work needed to maintain and improve the platform.

Get involved

This project is still at an early stage, and contributions of all kinds are welcome.

You can contact me if you:

  • know about an event, club, competition, meetup, or other queer sports information that should be included;
  • spot incorrect or outdated information;
  • have feedback or an idea for a feature;
  • would like to help maintain or curate content;
  • would like to contribute to design, development, translation, or other parts of the project;
  • represent an organization or community interested in collaborating or partnering;
  • or simply have something you think I should know.

For now, the easiest way to reach me is by email:

protwhack2016@gmail.com

Whether it's a small correction, a big idea, an offer to help, or just some feedback — you're welcome to get in touch.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone organizing queer sports, creating safer and more welcoming spaces, sharing information, volunteering their time, and helping people find community through sport.

And thank you for visiting and supporting this project.
